Depending on what criteria you follow, I am either the very last of the Gen Xers or the very first of the Gen Yers. Included in the Gen X cohort are the founders of Google, YouTube and MySpace. In a survey of Gen Y college students, 97% own a computer, 76% use Instant Messaging, 60% own some type of portable music and/or video device, 49% download music using peer-to-peer file sharing, 34% use websites as their primary source of news, 28% have a blog and 44% read blogs! From the overwhelming evidence of my tech savvy peers, I can only conclude that I slipped through the generational cracks and was simply born a luddite.
Despite my technophobia, I am happy to report that I am having a lot of fun participating in this program. It's not as hard or scary as I dreaded; in fact, I had a lot of fun building my page, creating my avatar and seeing all the other imaginative blogs people have set up.
Oh, and if my younger brother (who laughed when he heard I had a blog) is reading this, you'll be happy to know I'm even considering letting this experience infiltrate other areas of my life. Perhaps I'll trade my disposable camera for something digital.
